Due to its small integrated weights, the IM-Pression Decke exerts gentle, even pressure on the body. This stimulates the deep sensory receptors and produces a calming effect. The blanket promotes body awareness and in this way conveys a feeling of security. A period of acclimatization is recommended. Initially, use should not exceed 10 to 15 minutes and should be increased gradually and step by step.
The IM-Pression Decke can be used as both a day and a night blanket.

Application observation of the IM-Pression Decke
1 Background
Dementia is a diagnosis that is being made more and more frequently in Germany. This is due, among other things, to the demographic development of our society, which is increasingly reaching a higher age. Symptoms of dementia-related illnesses include impairments of short-term memory and orientation. Another frequently occurring problem is sleep disorders, which occur partly with increasing age but are also associated with the disease of dementia. According to valid studies, an estimated 25% to 50% of elderly, old, and very old people suffering from a form of dementia suffer from sleep disorders.¹ These manifest themselves as a reversal of the day-night rhythm, frequent nighttime awakening, wandering (aimless roaming), and increasing daytime sleep. ²
2 Research Question
In addition to existing intervention options (increasing daytime activity, light therapy, occupational therapy), the IM-Pression Decke from the company Lück could offer a new solution approach to the problem of sleep disorders in people with dementia.
Due to a lack of evidence in the field of promoting perception in people with dementia, this project was based on the following research question: "Does the RHOMBO-MEDICAL IM-Pression Decke from the company Lück improve the sleep quality of people with dementia?"
3 Method
This study is an application observation in the form of a Post Marketing Surveillance study (PMS). These investigations aim to research the effectiveness of a product under everyday conditions.³
Methodological approach and study structure:
- Design of an observation form
- Inclusion criteria: dementia, wandering, nighttime restlessness, sleep onset and maintenance disorders, written consent form
- Exclusion criteria: respiratory diseases (e.g. COPD, asthma)
- Sample: n = 6 (+2 cross-study subjects), female
- First observation round 09.11.2011 – 19.11.2011

5 Results
In order to be able to compare the course of sleep for the individual subjects, the mean value of the sleep qualities at the observation times and days was calculated.
The diagram above shows that sleep quality in the daytime observation stabilizes from day 6 onward and settles into the positive quality range. From this it can be concluded that after an acclimatization phase with the IM-Pression Decke, the sleep quality of the subjects stabilizes.
The time-of-day diagram shows that the subjects show hardly any restlessness from about 1:00 a.m. onward and sleep peacefully.
Compared to the care home's prior documentation, it can be concluded that the nighttime restlessness of the subjects could be reduced by the IM-Pression Decke.
A study was able to demonstrate the calming and relaxing effect of the blanket. This stimulates deep sensory perception.
Positive results with the RHOMBO-MEDICAL IM-Pression Decke have also been observed in anorexia nervosa and coma vigil (persistent vegetative state).
The IM-Pression Decke can be used in versatile ways and can be used both during the day and at night, for short and longer periods. It is washable at 60°C and can be dried at a low temperature.
